'47 VIN code location

I have a '47 Ford pickup and i can't locate the VIN/Serial number. I know that the code on the engine block is supposed to be the same, however the truck i bought has 2 motors and i'm not sure if either are from my truck (one is a '42 and the other is a late '47). I also know that there is supposed to be one stamped into the frame near the steering box, but i can't seem to find it and i don't even know if i'm looking in the correct spot.

Pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Snowman88, welcome to the site, nice to have another early Ford truck owner here.

The number won't be stamped on the motor, it would be on the bellhousing of the trans, on the top, by the flange. For a '47, the VIN will start with a 7. It is also stamped on the top of the frame rail, between the steering box and motor mount. They were hand stamped, start and end with a star. They are not the easiest to find if you have rust, grease, or grime on the frame. Clean it up, should be able to find it. There is a user here who has a picture of the general location of the number on the frame. Hopefully he will be along soon and be able to post that picture. Good luck and feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

it is on the left frame rail , towards the front, behind the cross member. i had to hit the whole area with a wire brush, then a thick scrubbing pad, and she started coming into sight. been hiding a long time, you'll see it

Same with mine. I had what looked like undercoating on my rail. Once I cleaned it with a wire brush, sandpaper, Brillo pad, etc. the VIN appeared matching what is on the title. Wish there was another location other than the tag in glove box to get truck model number. Good luck, Roy

You can get it off of the transmission. Just pull the trans tunnel and there should be a tag there. But this is only accurate if the transmission hasn't been replaced with another one and the tag not swapped onto the new one.
