I replaced mine with one out of a boneyard, They gave it to me
and replacement is pretty simple.
With the door open, you will see on the jamb that there is a metal tab, this is what holds the lock in place. after you scavange one from the boneyard. take it to a locksmith and have it rekeyed. it cost me about 15 bucks.
to remove the old lock, remove the inner panel and the liner.
With a vise grips pull really hard on the metal tab. If you bend it, it can be bent back. the are two spurs on it that will make it a bit tough to remove but if they dont break off you can straighten them too.
On the backside of the lock, there is a plastic clip mounted on the actuator rod that holds it to the arm you can remove this or do what I did , pull the E-clip that hold the arm to the lock cylinder.
Take note of how this arm is oriented so you can get it back together again.
after all this is done just reverse the disassembly and it will all go back together again.
If the sheet metal is a bit gnarfled aroung the lock cyl. hole you may be able to flatten it out again with a hammer and sheetmetal dolly or any flat piece of steel. I used the side of a second hammer .
dont hit it too hard or you will deform the hole and make it too small to put the lock back into. hopfully the didn't tear the sheetmetal.
I hope this works for you. any ? just send me a P.M.
Joe
