I have a 97 ranger with a 4 cyl and auto trans...I am replacing the engine. what is the easiest way to pull the motor... just the motor or the motor and trans?

pulling engine

Well, since the tranny is so small, and weighs next to nothing, I found it easier to pull the tranny first.. Then, there's less chance of banging up your firewall and such when pulling the engine.

pulling engine

I usually pull the engine and tranny together since it is normally easier for me to install them as a unit. I had a problem one time getting the splines to line up.
