Be sure to post if you are able to fix it. I will have a similar problem to work out soon. My hatch and window won't open, AND I have the added obstacle of having a cage behind the rear seat. So I have to find a way in from outside.
The lock cable has probably broken. You can pull off the panel even with the hatch closed and manually open the latch so you can get in there to replace the cable. There are separate but identical cables for the window and hatch latches.
This is a design weakness since the plastic ends of the cable sheath seem to break easily under stress.
There's a little challenge replacing the window cable since it appears to be build into the window hatch, but you can remove the hatch and carefully bend it open to remove the cable, then bend it back to replace it.
