Hey there. My dad's got an 85 2wd diesel. Well we can't get it started. He's got the block heater plugged to keep it warm, but when he tryed to started it yesterday all it did was rotate real slow. So I thought it mite be dead batteries,so I charged them fully, but when I tryed to start it it did the same thing and rotated slowly. So does anyone know what to do?? Thanks!!
Take the batteries and have them tested at the store to make sure they are good. They may find one good and one bad. If they do, replace them both. I know it's expensive, but if you put a old battery with a new battery, the new battery will only be as good as the old battery tied to it. It's best to have two new batteries that will work together.
If the batteries test good, crank it over as much as possible and then check the cables near the batteries for heat. If any of them are unusally hot, there is a problem in that area of the cable.
+1 on Franklin's WOW (words of wisdom, I just made that up but you can use it)
I had an F450 PSD the other day that had a bad connection at the battery cable to starter terminal, while cranking I saw it glowing red from the heat.
Yes I did leave the chager on it and tryed to start it,but it did the same thing. It's an auto. We replaced the starter a few months ago,but a bad conntection could make it do that? Hmm. Well thanks I'll see if the batteries are good and I'll make sure the conntections are good. Thanks a lot guys!!
