I'm looking at buying a 2000 Triton v10 with 150k miles on it.. It's all highway miles.. and supposedly has been taken care of. I don't know how long these trucks last.. hes asking $6,000 ext cab short box. Would it be worth it? will it last much longer?
By way of comparison, I just bought a 2001 F350 crew cab V10 4wd with 119K on it. I paid 11,500. It was a relatively clean two owner truck from California. I couldn't find the same truck for the same money, even though that's close to high retail.
The engine runs just fine. The transmission seems fine. Now that I've had it about two weeks, I can tell a lot of other little things are going to nickel and dime me. I had to have a clockspring replaced, will need a radio fixed, speedometer does not work, skid plate is bent up substantially and will need fixed. Little dings and scrapes here and there in the body. And I started hearing a whine from the rear end the past few days - took it in to a trusted mechanic - it will probably need a new differential, bearings, etc and a new pinion seal.
That being said, the truck you're looking at sounds decent. But figure a couple grand cushion for all the stuff you'll want to have fixed. If it's such a great truck, why is the guy selling it? And why that price?
