I called the local dealership today and asked for the price of a hot flush coolant service with VC-9. He told me $139 and change for parts and labor. Does this sound right??? Sounds cheap to me.
I wouldn't. The vc-9 is 50, the coolant is another 50 for GO-5 @ Napa. That's 100 not counting labor and I also use distilled water. Something doesn't add up.
You better get that in writing because it's a mistake, the average price is around $250 and up. They gave you a price on changing the antifreeze, the VC-9 alone is $53 add in around $40 for the antifreeze. Are you sure they didn't give you a price on a transmission "hot flush"?

Good point. Sounds more reasonable. And that would be minus the external filter.
I thought something was screwy so i literally asked him 3 times. He was getting a little annoyed by then but i told him it sounded too cheap. I guess i'll call back tommorow and schedule it and see if the story changes.

You are gettting a wham bam thank you mam coolant flush for $140. The service advisor you are taking to prob. has no idea what vc9 is, all he heard was coolant flush.
Best question to ask him is how long will it take.
If I remember from one of Cheezits write-ups on the procedure, they'll have the truck hooked to the computer and set to a high idle for 1 hour while the VC-9 is doing its job.

I think that is still too low ...
My bill was $222 for "Trans service includes drain converter"
Labor $119.46 (OP code 14A)
Filter $44.71 (3C3Z 7B155 BA Element)
6 Qts $58.20 (XT 6 QSP Fluid)
+ tax
+ shop fees.
Make sure you find out what they are including in the service,
my local Ford Dealer didn't impress with the their Diesel knowledge.
I've since learned to go to the Ford "Truck" Dealer, or a local
Ex-Ford Diesel mechanic.
There are no bargains in:
* Parachutes
* Dentists
* Brain Surgeons
* Ford PSD Mechanics

Your bill shows they put 6 qt's of fluid in trans is that a typo?
I figured it meant 6, but I guess it's really 10.
Just to help "confuse" folks
Here is the complete line:
SRV/Tech QTY Amount
XT 6 QSP Fluid - T 10 58.20
Actually your transmission holds 17.5 quarts including the external filter housing. If you just do a pan drain like I do every 10,000 miles your looking at 8 quarts + so if the people who "hot flushed" your trans only used 10 quarts they were 7 away from a total flush. I would go back and let them explain the missing fluid.
Well I called the dealership back today and asked for the same coolant service and the guy said they don't have a "flush machine" and that I should try a local quicky oil change place like Valvoline. I told him I would rather have a Ford dealer do the service so he gave me the number of another dealership. When I called them they said they didn't do that flush either. What's up with a dealership that doesn't have the equipment to service what they sell. At least that's gonna be my question to the owner of the local dealership tommorrow. But anyway, the $139 was for a regular flush job. Neither of the shops knew what VC-9 was. Sad, but true.
