Hello, gang. This is my first post on this side of the house. I traded in my 2001 F250 (see sig) on a 2001 Excursion. I miss the smell of diesel, but already love the large interior of the Excursion. Plus, the Ex is rust free which is hard to find up here in Minnesota! Especially on a 10 year old truck.
Anyway, I have a quick question. The side doors rattle and I'm looking for a fix. I read the thread about putting tubing in the weather stripping and will probably try that this summer.
However, I noticed these holes both the side doors. Are there supposed to be rubber bumpers screwed into these?
Mine didn't have the stops in there either. I went to a salvage yard and picked a couple off an old Escape. Didn't help all that much with the rattle. Do the tubing. It works good.
I haven't looked at my doors to see what is there. But I did do the tubing modification on the rear passenger door. I used the vinyl tubing (cheaper and more available than latex) and haven't had the cold weather issues that supposedly come with vinyl even though I live in Colorado.

So the 3/8 OD vinyl tubing works? I am wanting to do this mod but having a hard time finding the latex at a reasonable price.

That's correct. Get the ones from Home Depot. They're a bit softer than Lowe's. You won't need to do all around the weatherstipping. Just the outer corners of each door. Otherwise, it will be too much. Plus it saves you the hassle of going all the way around.

You can get the Latex off Amazon for a fair price and the latex is the way to go for a proper even fit that will also help reduce the amount of wind noise and dust filtration. This is what I got.
Luckily for me, it doesn't get that cold here. If I had used latex, it would have been extremely difficult to feed into the weatherstripping without removing it. I needed the rigidity of the vinyl to push its way in.
Yes those are supposed to have bumpers in them. They just clip in.
I ended up going with the latex tubbing on the doors. My drivers side still rattled after the latex. When I finally got tired of it I pulled the the door skin off and found the mounting bolts that hold the glass track on loose. Once tight all is quiet again.
