I've got a 24' enclosed car transport trailer with a gvw of 10,400lbs.
It came with ST22575R15 Radial trailer tires (Mission brand, which I've heard are crap)
The trailer is just under 3 years old, and has been towed probably 10k miles and tires have always been maintained and aired up to the max 65psi.
Last night on the way back from a car show the crap Mission tire showed its *** and came apart, we put the MISSION spare on and came home w/o incedent-used my 12v impact gun-worked like a charm.
NOW: I am looking to replace these tires with something hopefully better, its a general concensus that ALL trailer tires are made in China now, and are of generally only good to poor quality.
There IS talk about folks putting an "LT" tire on a trailer with good results over the "ST" tire-I'd like opinions on this please.
The tires are ST22575R15 and I have very nice American Racing rims so I am not interested in going to a 16" setup at this point.
an antique car transporter suggested a 7.00R15LT tire in load range E which is what he runs 6 of on his dual car open trailer....any ideas on this tire?-he says the size is very close to the 22575R15. Thanks!!
I think you'll have a hard time finding a 15" tire that will have the load rating you'll need in anything other than a ST tire.
I have access to Yokohama (sponsor of the race team I help with) who make a ton of commercial tires and I couldn't find anything. Wish I could have had 16" wheels to begin with, more options.
I had to replace the Bias-Ply tires on my open car hauler this summer. I put 4 Carlisle Radials on it, and they seem to do pretty good. I also have a set of Carlisle bias on my boat trailer.
I put 4 Maxxis 225/70R15 Load range E on my 5th wheel. Weight, loaded for Nascar Races is 14,000lbs for the 5er. Just weighted it in November on my way to the races. The Maxxis is an ST Radial. It is well thought of on other RV forums. I did not have room for 16 inch so I had to stay with 15's. Also took a 2300 mile trip to Colorado this summer, loaded for bear, also and they did a great job as far as I can tell...
I have bought tires from tire rack then had a road hazzard warranty issue and what a nightmare it was, Tire rack is good and cheap to buy from but if you have the need for a replacement tire you'll wait well over a week until their gods feel the need to give you some customer service.
I'm headed out to have 4-ST22575R15E rated Carlises put on at Discount Tire-$92.00 each-I think is a misprint in their listing for the tires as they show the D rated ones for $118.00 each..........ANYTHINGS got to be better than what I've got in the Mission D rated now!!
I have the Goodyear Marathons (US Made), an they tow straight and so far so good, only been one season so far. Most tire failures are due to overloading, speeding and pressure mismanagement, some tires are just pure crap though. From what I found last year, most of the Marathons are US made, there are some exceptions by size.
Supercab, that's good to know about the PR at Tire rack, hmmmm...........
I not really bashing Tire Rack because they did provide great service BEFORE the sale, but wern't so inclined afterwards, they insisted that we go & have a tire pro look at the damaged tire then call them (Tire Rack) and explain what they had found, then with only about 2k miles on these tires the price had gone up by $3 so they wanted us to pay that, plus still wait a week and a half for a replacement when if I had bought local we could have had the tire taken care of the same day as the failure.
I just got back from ANOUTHER VERY PLEASENT experiance with DISCOUNT TIRE here in West Melbourne, Florida with 4 new ST22575R15E Carlyses installed including balancing and new bolt-in stems, $434.00 out the door with my $25.00 coupon from my last visit, they even armor-all them!!-I don't know if any other Discount Tire branch treats their customers like I've been treated 3 times now, but I am VERY satisfied and VERY impressed with THEIR customer service!!
