I have a 1988 f250 crew cab 7.3L I need to know if anyone has a source for a repair connector that connects the engine wiring harness to the cab harness. It is the 18-20 pin connector on my cab side that is bad. I did search the forum but didn't turn up anything.
Junkyard... I'm not sure anyone else would have it.
I won't say for sure, but I'll guess that the connectors are the same diesel vs gas, just that the wiring would be different for the different engines. It MIGHT be possible to splice them together if you find a gas truck. You are talking about that big round plastic thing right? I think its white, with a bolt in the middle.
No the one I m talking about is the one on the passenger fender that connects the engine harness to the vehicle it is a 16 pin female connector. And yes a junk yardmy be where I wind up. There is some companies that do make replacement connectors or pigtails that was what I was looking for if anybody knew of an aftermarket supplier.
Try the dealership, it's enough of an issue that you're not the only one to encounter an issue..so there must be a pigtail available. I didn't see one cruising through the LMC website...but it's tough to navigate. The catalog is easier, but I don't have it with me.
When mine fails, I figure I'll just make my own setup with a few 4-flat trailer plugs...but I'll also be moving all the terribly placed stuff on the passenger inner fender so I can mount a tupperware container and have the connectors in there, out of the elements.
Sure, might be crazy but it will work.
just splice em together that connector is known to go bad casue of the high amperage draw from the glow plugs melting the connector when corrosion is present dave s spliced his together
Good call, that's a better idea. I was just thinking for pulling the engine you can easly just unplug everything, but if it even comes down to that it's just as easy to pull the connectors off all the sending units!
Those connectors have not been available from the dealer for years.
I spliced my glow plug power wires together, solder and heat shrink tubing.
For the sensor wires, insulated spade terminals, insulated bullet terminals.
That way, only the correct wires get plugged into each other.
Just make sure the red/green stripe ignition wire has the insulated connector on the chassis side since it does have power when the key is on and the batteries are hooked up.
oooohhh that connector... Oops sorry.
I spliced the glow plug wires together this summer, it looked like they were starting to separate and melt. But the rest of the plug looked fine, so I left them in the stock connector for now.
I just got in from work but I have a source for every connector known to man....but I am like the other guys..Hard wire it....I hard wire mine if I have troubles....Connectors are for assembly lines....Yeh they can be used for a known open when checking a circuit but that be worked around easy enough... BTW.my books are in my service truck. I didn't drive it home tonight.
