86 F250 351w build thread

I have a 86 F250 with the 351w with a 4 barrel carb. Not sure if the 4bbl was stock or not on this year... It is my first carb set up and i want to build a good motor with 350+ hp as it is lifted and lugs around some 38.5x15x16.5 wheels and tires. It already has lockers and 4.56 gears in it,i just want a bit more power from the motor. Has a C6 trans with shift kit

I have a F4TE block in my garage right now that runs, but has 200k+ on it. More than likly rebuild it before i start' Questions are as followes:
1. What will it take to get to 350+ out of a 351w?
2. What would be the best heads?
3. Advice on cams
4. carb and intake manifolds
5. ratio roller rockers
6. N/A or NO2 recommendations
7. what am i looking at price wise?

Heres a pic of the toy i will be playing with... Nothing pretty, just a weekend wheeler.

I put in "351w 350hp" in a google search and got lots of hits. Realize though this engine is going to be a little on the wild side, and may not serve you well mud bogging or whatever you do with those big tires. I have talked to people that have trucks with a high performance race type engines in a truck, and the engine is like a switch. It's either on or off, it doesn't make any power in the lower rpm ranges. I have to admit though, standing there listening to it run would give me goose bumps with that lumpty camshaft. But he ended up selling it, he could not even drive it in the snow. All it would do is spin the tires.

If you calculate how much money you will have in this build, you might be better off getting junker with a 460 and dropping it in. They should be easy to find now that gas prices are going up again.

It would be a straight play toy. No plans on having it street legal. I have my 06 SC F250 for that. And my plow truck. Now having a BBF would be nice, but i kind of would like to have an aggressive SBF instead. Ive seen these things make awsome powerplants for many types of vehicles and would like one myself. It has always been the most reliable motor for me.

Also with a 460 swap that would also include a trans and transfer case swap crossmembers, driveshafts etc...

I will post this in the general engine building thread aslo as i havent gotten very many views, let alone replies here. thanks for your input!

In the 460 swap you can keep your transfer case you have. You would have to swap trannies.

Or just the bell housing.
A BW T-19 could be found behind both a 351 or a 460 of this vintage.
There's no difference in the gearbox.
