Ah ha! Exactly what I was looking for, thank you for this sledhead!
Leaving the hubs engaged during the winter shouldn't pose any premature wear issues? I suppose not, just another turning shaft or two. I like the "on demand" nature of the locked lock-outs. Thanks again!
Nope, won't hurt a thing. I don't believe Dodge has ever used lockout hubs on their trucks; the u-joints are always spinning. I have noticed at least a 1 MPG reduction of fuel economy with the hubs locked; I NEVER set them to "lock."
I like the way the system works, I was always too cheap to drive around in my '08 with the hubs locked, with the manual system it was either locked or unlocked...no auto with the manual system!

I think so, but it's too cold for me to go out and look.
so with fords setup does the front axle and front driveshaft spin when the hubs are on auto and the truck is in 2wd
dodge used to have up until about 2000 or so, what was called center axle disconnect, this made it so the front u joints and front axle and driveshaft didn't spin when in 2wd, however in later years they got cheap and just ran it live all the time. which lead to alot more u joint failures especially in the front driveshaft, both my 02 and 06 trucks had bad ones by the time they hit 75k
No the axle won't spin. The vacum pulses disconnect the axle at the hub. If you hit a large pot hole you may damage the oring seals that are needed for the vacum to engage and disengage. If this happens it may stay locked on one side. I went thur this with my 02. I hope they made the seals better. I know the outer ring that you turn to lock manually is better.

I do believe (correct me if I am wrong), if you are in a 1 locked situation, the truck is smart enough to let you know. My brother has had failures (multiple) on his 2008 where in one case a wheel stayed locked, the truck gave him some sort of error message (combination of lights blinking on the dash).
That would be nice. My 02 didn't have that. Also if the seals leak they can let water in and damage the bearings, etc. $$$$$.. Big job changeing out the assembly for bearings I recall. I ordered manual transfer case on my 08 but they don't have that now for Lariets that I saw so I got back the ESOF.

I took a leap of faith on the ESOF with this truck. I am an old lever guy and having this done for me, just isn't natural for me. Something about those gears grinding in my hand as I shift into 4 Lo...
Probably something similar to my wife's blind faith that I would be a good husband and father when she decided to marry me...
