I have an 05 f250 6L 6spd, a few weeks ago it died on the side of the road. it would crank, take forever to start. When it finally did start, it white smoked really bad, no boost, rough idle for about 5 mins, then die. I had the truck towed home and the turbo was bad, just put the garrett GT3788va in, truck starts fine now. Misfire on #2 cylinder. oil getting to the exhaust. No loss of antifreeze. So I don't think it's a head gasket. Someone told me that there might be a hole in the #2 piston. I really don't know and would greatly appreciate any help.
oil also smells like diesel fuel. When the truck started acting funny it would shudder at low rpm then major loss of power and after stopping and looking around for a bit, would not run at more than an idle.
There is enough cylinder pressure in a turbocharged diesel engine that stuff (oil, coolant) usually doesn't get into the cylinders through the head gaskets, it's the other way around. So you will generally get combustion gasses pushing coolant out of the degas bottle.
Oil in the exhaust and missing on number 2 certainly would be explained by a busted piston. However, I think I'd test the #2 injector before I started tearing it down. There is a slim chance that the #2 injector has failed and is causing the misfire, and your new turbo is leaking oil into the intake. That'd be a long shot coincidence, but I think it'd be worth checking before you start tearing it down.
I'm Crash16's Dad. I'm trying to figure this one out. The engine cranks and runs with a miss. I'm assuming in the number two cylinder. Getting a contribution/misfire DTC for number two cylinder. The engine runs fine except for the miss. It starts knocking a little at a time gradually getting worse until it dies. after a bit it will crank and eventually start doing the same thing. It feels like it is starving out of fuel. But the knocking may also be number two injector stuck open and feeding too muck fuel to the cylinder and hydro locking. The number two injector is the same injector that had to be sent back to the manufacturer new because it would not fire. They said they replaced a solenoid on the injector. It was re-installed and ran fine until the day Crash16 states in his initial post. The injector dumping fuel into the cylinder bleeding past the rings may also be causing the fuel smell in the oil. We could really use the experts on this site help with this one. Thanks in advance for your help.

You have a pretty good idea of what's going on. Check your oil level and see how much it's gone up. Get that injector out and have it looked at again. A hole burnt into a piston top is possible from a leaking injector, but hopefully you caught it in time.
