I am looking to upgrade my lights and need some advice on which brand you would reccomend. I have been looking at the sylvania ultra, but am not sure they are the best. I love my truck but the lights are not all that. Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
I saw on another F150 forum where a guy actually retrofitted real HID projectors into the stock F150 housings. It ended up costing him between 600 to 800 bux in parts and a backup set of halogen headlights while having the retrofit done. After seeing the beam picture matching that of high end luxury cars without all the "Spill", I think that'st he route I would go. I think I may try my hand at using a dremel tool to put projectors into the stock housing and see how it comes out.
Now I can't remember if we're allowed to link to another forum or not, but I can't find as definitive of a comparison as this thread, and kudos to the individual who took the time to retrofit his truck to show these pictures: http://www.f150forum.com/f38/custom-...ons-too-76242/

i put 10k hid in my factory light housing and they work great. I also have them in my fog lights. I dont need a lecture about how the factory housing is not designed for hids, i know this. but they perform great and look good doing it. I have ran HID in my trucks for the last 3 1/2 years and i will never go back to a regular halogen.
I just installed DDM HID's in head/fogs. Work great so far. Have had HID's in last 2 F-150's over 200K miles with no issues. Great visibility. Won't get flashed if you adjust them right. No modifications to install these.
Pardon the ignorance but do the hid's just replace the oem bulb or do you have to do more mods?
There are a few more parts that come with an HID kit. First you have the actual HID itself. I replaces your oem bulb in the same location with no mods. Then you have a ballast. Its the box that provides the correct voltage to the hid. Your ballast plugs into your factory light plug from the truck, then the other wire on the ballast plugs the the HID bulb and that pretty much it. Some kits also have an extra ground wire like mine. And I also have an extra set of wire from the ballast the run the + and - on the battery with an inline fuse. That is what provide my ballast with power. The plug to the factory harness just tells it to turn on and off, also low and high beam.
I know it sounds confusing and the first time I installed them I was lost but after looking at where everything goes there is nothing to it. Takes maybe 10 minutes.
Sorry for the long post, but its the answer your looking for, hopefully.
