Hey folks.
Life keeps throwing things at me... Lost my F-250 in early December.. We decided to replace it with an Excursion, then changed our minds to a Jeep... But, 3 weeks of research have suggested that an Excursion really was the better idea...
So...
Couple of questions if anyone can answer them?
#1 We are looking at possibly buying a 2004 Diesel Excursion from OUTSIDE of California.. Does anyone know the laws regarding bringing one of these back to Ca with all the new smog rules now in place?
#2 How much is to much when it comes to mileage? The one that has caught our interest has 180,000 miles on the 6.0 engine.
#3 is there anything "specific" when looking at a 6.0 Diesel Excursion that should raise large warning flags?

The laws are the same, there's nothing different and it's the same as any other vehicle.
It would behoove you to make sure both the EGR and catalytic convertor are still present though, since those two items are the most common to delete on the 6.0. To pass California smog, you have to have them.

I'm not a big 6.0 fan and don't know them as well as I know the 7.3, so I'll let the six-oh owners chime in on those two.
Yes, it would suck if you can not pass smog on the diesel here in CA. I wonder if you could take it to a Ford dealership shop and have them go over it to see if it still meets CA emissions before you buy it? It may be expensive. See if can get a better deal on a diesel in CA that had already passed smog.
I spent better than 20 years trucking into and out of California from the upper midwest, the one thing i noticed was that EVERYTHING cost's more in the GOLDEN state!
