bearings

Ok this is my problem, I just put my cam in and I started on my crank I tried to put the 2 big bearings at the front and back in but they would no fit. I called the store i bought them from and they said that they had different bearings from like 1977 and up and I ordered the ones for a 77 but they dont fit. Is there any way I could get the production date of the motor, its not the original so I cant get it off the car. did they use any 1976 blocks in 1977?

Casting code & date should be on the back of the block under the right (pass. side) cylinder back. The 351M/400 blocks did undergo a change to the main webbing beginning with the D7TE casting code. If your block has a casting code of D1xx, D4xx or D5xx then it will need the early style bearings. If it's D7xx or D8xx then it will take the later style bearings.

The date code will look like 7C01 or 6J14 or something like that.
