can i get the tank and sending unit for the mustang tank or does the sendind un it have to match the gauge? i havnt bought the gauges yet so i dont want to buy the sending unit if it wont work with afternarket gauges.

Sending units and gauges have to match. There are three basic sending units in 12V negative ground and they are Ford/Chrysler (78-10 ohms resistance), GM (0-90 ohms resistance), and after market (240-33 ohms resistance). All Stewart Warner, most VDO, etc., use the 240-33 ohm gauges. If you use the Mustang sending unit just be sure the gauge you use is for a Ford. If you use an aftermarket gas gauge not specifically for a Ford, you will need to change the sending unit. I am using the 240-33 ohm sending unit in my original fuel tank and the corresponding aftermarket gauge.
