cricket noise when flooring it
i have a 93 f 150 4x4 with a 5.0 and a poweraid throttle body spacer. i started noticing a problem when trying to pass a vehicle or traveling up a grade. the noise sounds like chirping crickett and gets very annoiying. the trucks runs 31 inch tires right know but, will get a 6" inch lift and 38's really soon. but first i,would like to fix this problem first.

the u joints got replaced about june 2002, haynes manual says to check either the fuel system or the electrical, but i cant find anything wrong with neither. although the u-joint sugestion does sound promissing.

What octane gas are you running? It could be spark knock. Try using 91 or 93 octane in a tank and see if it goes away. If it does you can re-adjust your timing, or just stick to higher octane.

for this problem do you advance the timming or retard it i have similar noise. if you have to retard could you please explain to me how i can do this at home with minimal tools.thank you.

all you need is a timing light. Spend the extra few bucks and get one with advance capabiity though. Unplug the advance harness under the hood (I forget where it is though). Hook up your timing light and check where the base timing is. I believe it should be 8-10 degrees BTDC. All you do is turn the distributor (after loosening the nut) until it reads whatever you want it set at. Try running a tank of premium first and see if that helps solve the prob.
