Well, the changes have begun. The truck now has a tach dash, woodgrain gauge and radio bezels, and a day-night mirror. Ahhhh, the luxury... On the darker side, something happened that caused the transmission to lose fluid, so the ol' truck is parked right now. I plan to not only find and fix the problem, but as long as I'm at it, the tranny lines will be replaced with stainless lines from Inlinetube.com. Also, new fluid and filter, and any other things that need refurbishing/ replacement. I took pix of the truck before any work (play?) started, but used a cheapie throw-away camera. I'll have to use the rest of the film, then get the pix developed, then go somewhere where I can scan and post the photos. Good ol' modern technology- I'm hurtling headlong into the 19th century!! Stay tuned, folks!

Those C6 transmissions are notoriously tough. But, 30 year old seals can tend to leak.
Hopefully, it's something simple, like the modulator valve or trans pan gasket.
Yes, since it worked fine up 'til that point, I figure there is nothing wrong with the trans. besides the pan seal, cooling lines, or some other simple fix. As for the woodgrain gauge bezel I installed, I can't understand why no air comes out the vents on either side of the gauges. The bezel I removed didn't have vents, but since the replacement bezel DOES have vents, I should have air conditioning, right? At least on the driver's side, I would figure...
LOL. I wish it were that simple...... Lack of air flow might be related to the lack of ducting behind the dash. :dunno:
As I said before, there were woodgrain dash bezels for trucks without A/C. My truck had one, but it was modified back when the truck was new, to add vents for the dealer added A/C.

Does Ford provide the appropriate air ducting behind the dash (panel registers) if the build options don't include A/C and the like?

No. Non-A/C trucks only have floor and defroster vents.
That's the beauty of my dealer added A/C. It's a totally seperate system. Heater and heater blower are under the hood, while the A/C and it's seperate blower are mounted behind the dash.
