My 1966 tailgate has a second skin of putty and its also warped. Since I have spent so much $$ already I am looking for a flat/straight tailgate. It looks like 1966 is not being reproduced but 1967-1972 is. What is the difference between 1966 and 1967 tailgates?
Not much, just the styling to match the body lines. '65 - '79 tailgates will all interchange but the different styling goes like '65 - '66, '67 - '72 and then '73 - '79. A '67 gate on a '66 will be close but the '73+ gates will look kind of funny.
Repop tailgates aren't as strong as the originals, Ford said they could hold a ton.
Originally posted by buzzard Barry, would you stand on a tailgate, with a ton of bricks, that was situated over a rattlesnake pit? I wouldn't either, no matter what Ford said.
I bought an aftermarket tailgate and put it on my 72 F-250 4x4. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK! I'm afraid to stand on it while its in the horizontal position. It's so flimsy, I'm afraid it will fold in half. I really am sorry I bought it and had it painted. I came from Obsolete Ford in Oklahoma city and I don't know who made it.
you better get a 65 66 tailgate because you have sunk so much money go the extra and get the right tailgate, because a real ford guy will know the differnce 66 to a 67 big diffrence, the 65 66 had taller thiner lettering the 67-72 had the shorter fatter letters.
