I would like to know if anyone knows if a 429 ci engine will fit in a 66-77 bronco? If so what does it take to make it work?Does any company make a conversion kit? Any help will be apreciated.
Width isnt a big of a problem as front to back. I measured every which way to try to squeeze my 429 into my bronco. The firewall would prolly have to be cut, in turn have the tranny and T case moved back, in turn making rear driveshaft angle EXTREME. Or the radiator would have to be reloacted because of the water pump nose length. Best thing to do for that cubic inch dis. would be to build a 351 stroked into a 426 or 427 whatever they are. Of course someone out there is gonna prove me wrong and have a 429 in theirs.
I've seen a couple that have been done. It is a tight fit and will require a lot of modification to work. If it is set up right, you can keep the stock drivetrain location, or very close to the original.
Cooling, weight and just being plain big are the main drawbacks.
I'd agree with SVT, a stroked Windsor will equal the power output of even a modified big block, but will be nearly a drop in where the 302 came from.
Make mine a .030 over '69 351W block with a 4.00 stroked crank for 408 CI. Pretty mild built with hyd roller cam and my injection will give 500 ft/lbs at about 2600 rpm, and over 400 horses for the sand and mud.
