Pulling the motor

Hey guys my dad threw a rod bearing , we think, in his 87' f250 4x4 460 carberated and it has 500k plus miles on it. Its been sitting in the yard for about 2 years now and he finally decided we need to fix it or take it to its burial grounds ... I have never rebuilt an engine before and ultimately i dont know if i need to rebuild the whole thing for the rod bearing but i was going to check and see if yall could give me any good sugestions so i dont have to watch this bad boy loaded on a trailer to the yard. We dont want to have to spend a lot of money on it and we can do most of the work ourselves so any thoughts??? thanks ahead of time.

With that many miles, I'm sure it needs a total rebuild. It'd give you something to do and you could chalk it up to a learning experience, assuming you have the money to throw at it.

Thats pretty much what i was thinkin as far as the rebuild. We want to leave it stock so what would be the best place to get a rebuild kit from?

I like rock auto and I just checked out their site. They have a rebuild kit for that engine. You could also toss around the idea of buying a short block to throw in it.
