Last year, my '02 threw a P0172 code. I replaced the oxygen sensors since they had more than 90k miles on them and cleared the code, problem solved, right? Nope, I'm still getting crappy mileage and I have checked vacuum lines and cannot seem to find the EGR valve (my Chilton's manual says it doesn't have one, but Ford says it does). I'm thinking about replacing the catalytic converter...any thoughts or suggestions?
check for codes, how's the scheduled maintanance going? How many miles?
Fuel filter? Air Filter? What kind of engine? 3.0? EGR should be easy to find on top of engine with a vacuum line coming out the top and pipe to exhaust below.
The only code I am getting is the P0172. The engine is a 2002 3.0L V6 FFV. Fuel filter was replaced a little over a year ago, air filter is brand new. MAF sensor was pulled and cleaned. Still don't see the EGR; Chilton Manual, AutoZone, Advanced Auto, and O'Reilly's all say there is no EGR valve on the 2002...but dealer says there is one....I must be either blind or stupid because I have gone over the engine multiple times and still nothing like that.
On the same note, when I replaced the O2 sensors, I had three, not four. Bank 1 (right side exhaust manifold) had the upstream and a downstream after the converter, Bank 2 (left side exhaust manifold) had the upstream, then the exhaust runs through two resonators, meets up with left side exhaust and both go through the converter and the downstream sensor.
No on the E85; I used it once a couple of years ago but the mileage was so bad I never used it again. I removed that cover once before when I was chasing throttle issues (replacing the TPS fixed that) and never noticed...I'll take it off this weekend and look. Thanks for the help, man!!!
