My contract is up in a while and I'm thinking about springing for a Droid.
I have the Droid X on VZW and really like it. My buddy has the EVO on Sprint and my sister has the Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) on AT&T and both really like their phones.
I had the iPhone for two and half years before making the switch to VZW mainly because around where I live I wasn't lucky enough to have a 3G network and had to live with AT&T's horrible Edge network. Although apparently the iPhone is coming to VZW within the next month which made me think about switching back to it but I have grown to really like Android.
i do wish i would have held out and got the droid x.. just for the camera but i was impateint and didnt want to wait 3 weeks for it to get delivered lol
My son in law has a Droid (not X) and it's really impressive.
For me it's a fun toy, but am having trouble convincing myself it's a practical need.
It will have to fall into the "want" category, I guess.
well do you need to check the weather on the go? or maybe check your email real quick or get driving directions or update fte postings when you arent at a computer? this list can go on and on..i say its a need lol
Now there is slider app, better than Tmobile Droids, my recommendations;
SideIT keyboard
SMS back-up&restore
Call log back up&restore
Gas Buddy
Call track
ElectroDroid -for the electricians amongst us-
SMS Auto reply
TeslaLED
App protector pro
A few, they are really opinion/personal preference, but- When the Droids came out for Verizon, they did not have the swipe software. It was only available for T-mobile folks, this forced Verizon customers to handscent & that's all we know.
Now that swipe is out for Verizon, called SlideIT keyboard, you have a better option for txt message and stuff. Much easier to use than the swipe & handscent.
Handscent will sometimes conflict with notification apps, but hey like I said- preference. Give the SlideIT app a chance, its really cool, I like it.

But I really like SHADY SMS
Hmm I never tried the others. I downloaded Handcent and have used it since I got my original Droid. I'll have to try out the others though, although why would they think the name "Shady SMS" was a good idea.
I have to go back and check, but Ringdroid is a good one.
One I downloaded yesterday with some good ringtones is Zedge. I got a few off it, mostly for ringer id. The one that got me to check into it was the "Wife Warning". A parts supplier had his phone ring with a bunch of customers around and we all were in awe of this awesome ringtone.
My phone died a premature death, so I went down to Verizon and sprang for the Droid X.
LOVE IT!
Glad you're loving your new phone!
I got an LG Optimus One a few weeks back. My father in law got an iphone 4 shortly afterwards, without knowing I got an Android phone. I've played around with it a bit, and they are about 90% similar in operation from a user standpoint. But that 10% difference drives me nuts. It's just little things, like the "back one screen" button... a few other things...
I'm gonna stay with the Android.
I like how you can take a picture or video, and either post it to an email, youtube, facebook or whatever directly from the phone, without having to remove the sd card or plug it in to your computer. ie, I shot a video of a leaking condenser on a customer's truck, uploaded to youtube for all to see, and now the evidence is indesputable. Or, my wife needed to make a decision, and wanted her sister's opinion on it. So I took a couple pictures, emailed them, and then called to get her reaction.
This is one slick little machine.
I gotta check if there's an obd2 app. That should be interesting.
