uh oh

oh so my moms 03 explorer(now mine) timing chain guide on the right bank kinda exploded. I havent pulled the motor yet(too cold) but if it hasent jumped time yet do you guys think I would be able to pull it out, replace tensioners and guides and drop it back in without removing the timing chain because i was talking to my auto instructor about it and he said it would probably bend the valves unless we had special dealer tools to hold the cam in place while the chains off it.its the 4.0 SOHC motor so its the one with the timing chain in the back.

Based on other posts here, there are a number of tools required to time the cams here. Since the engine has to come out, you'd be better served replacing the chain and pulling the head to make sure you don't have bent valves.

Plus, where did all the debris from the tensioner go?

How many miles?

well i got a large chunk out when i pulled the valve cover but it appears to have been rubbing against the chain.the whole car only had like 65-70k miles on it.
