so hey guys i have a 1997 4.6 f150 with 174,562 miles and i have a miss it all started a year ago about when my break booster went out all of a sudden i had a miss so i just figuerd it was a vaccume leak from the booster so i got that fixed and there was still yet a miss. i replaced all of the plugs and while changing the plugs a plug was stuck in there so i used a cheater bar and broke it out of there and when it came so did the threads. so i put the new plug in it and i tightend up but it still missed so i got new wired and coil packs it got better till i drove it to work the next day. and now it has the codes p0171,p0420,p0303, and p304 cylinder 4 missfire will not go away and idk what else to do. and in cylinder 4 i ended up having to put a helicoil in but now my spark plug wire bows off and idk why i really need help i love my tuck and i dont know what to do ive tried everything i know of
If you fix the first problem, and the last 2 ( misfires), the second one may be solved. First, I'd check engine vacuum. If that shows a leak, check the rest of the lines and hoses, specifically from the PCV to the rear of the intake, from the rear of the intake to the brake booster, and all the nylon lines. You can see Splits in the nylon pretty easy, but problems on the ends can take some extra time.
For the first code, check all the air intake duct work. If nothing turns up there, check for leaking gaskets.
Were the coils you installed new ones ? If they test ok, first check that the wires are on the correct plugs. If OK, make sure the spring clips inside the boot actually snap on to the plugs. What brand plugs did you use ? The spring clips can get sprung and may not grab at all. In that case, the boot is all that holds the wire on, and you may get a misfire that way ( or the wire can come off.)
@jj98 man ive looked i couldnt find anything im hoping when i get my income taxes back to have enough i should have close to 700 will that be good? @daveg i will check the hoses but as far as the wires i just got another new set andput them on and then double checked the after words. and i bough a new coil pack on the driverside. and the plugs are champion. i put autolites in at first and after 200 miles 4 outta 8 fouled out but the champions are good so far. @alldatdiyinfo well i guess the helicoil wont stay in there i took the plug out to change it because of the missfire andthe helicoil came with it so idk i guess but the plug stays in the wire just blows off and while its running ill put my hand on the plug wire to push it back on and i can feal it blowing it back off everytime.
