I've learned a lot about flash strategies and how programmers work reading through these threads and playing with my SCT SF3. I have a few Q's hopefully someone can answer.
1. The flash on my 05 is from about 07 and have the injectors cycle for 30 seconds after I shut down. Is it good to keep this or should I move on?
2. I've read to upgrade to latest flash. Advantages? Disadvantages? Does SCT SF3 support the latest strategies?
3. The custom programmers apparently do not rewrite the whole strategy but only tweaks some parameters. Evident because my injectors still cycle after changing programs with a SCT SF3. What depth can the program be changed with a programmer like the SF3? ie; canceling the injector cycling or the next question...
4. The SCT programmer allows the EGR to be turned off. Does this just disable the CEL and DTCs or does it also turn off the EGR valve function or do I still need to unplug my EGR valve? Does it compensate the fuel mapping for no EGR?
One + for the VXCF9 is that it runs higher egt's, = cleaner burning= cleaner egr system and turbo. VXCF9 has better cold starts but this is just masking the issue.
I got VXCF9 from warranty work. I did not like the mpg decrease, so I switched back to VXCF4. I have no cold start issues what so ever with VXCF4.
A previous PCM strategy that's supposed to be a better tuning base. You can get the latest FICM flash from the dealership and go back to a VXCF4 PCM flash via SCT without affecting the FICM flash.
GTRider-- I personally wouldn't change your "buzz" flash if it's working well for your injectors. It's a Navistar FICM flash supposed to help with injector stiction vs. the inductive heating flashes used by Ford for the same.
Yup, no injector probs. My street tune is working well too. I tried the transmission only tune so I can tow my 11,000 lb trailer but any throttle position past 20% and it didn't know what gear to be in. These are the preloaded tunes and primarily using them to turn off the egr. I wonder if I give it more time it will learn or the fact I didn't clear the memory had an affect.
