wierd heater problem

I have a weird heater problem on my 88 2.9 B2. It takes a little while for it to get to the point where it blows warm air, but then it blows warm for just a minute or two then it is cold again. If i turn it off for a little while and turn it on again it does the same thing. Also, my windows do fog up a lot. I haven't linked it to using the heater though. I searched the old posts and didn't really come across this problem but I thought maybe it could be the blower motor or a leak in the heater core or with my luck it could be both. ALso, i am not very mechanically gifted so any detailed advice is much appreciated. Oh yeah, I also just replaced the radiator and thermostat and radiator cap. I think it worked well before I did that, but I can't remember. I've only had the B2 for a few weeks now. Thanks

Sounds like a definite heater core problem to me. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago because it was doing the same thing. The reason that your windows are fogging up so much is because there is an antifreeze film on them that is sort of like an oily residue and it is hard to get off. Anyway, the good news is that the heater core is VERY easy to get to and change. I could do the whole job in about 15 min tops. You have to unhook the heater hoses (passenger side of the engine comp. running into the firewall) and then there is an access panel located under your dash on the passenger side (but close to the middle) that you have to unscrew like two screws and then the heater core pulls out and down. If you have any kind of repair manual for your truck it will explain the whole process. After you get the new one in you just bleed the system( just make sure your heater is running as the core is so high up and hard to bleed) and your through.

Check your antifreeze level. Ours does that every once in awhile when the antifreeze level drops. Our question is ...where in the heck is all of that antifreeze going, anyway?

Could be low on coolant, did you finish adding more after you ran the engine and let the thermostat open.Just toppin it off after replacing all that doesnt fill it up.and you should look under your passenger side floormat to see if its wet, heater core leaks often end up there.

I know my husband tops it off and then squeezes some hose. Yes, my floormat is soaked constantly. We replaced the heater core, hoses and the hose clamps. The floor is still soaked. Makes me soooo mad! We were told something about the cowls or something being plugged. We just cant get access to them to find out. They made the '86 much different than the '90. We will check again, though. Thanks for the info. Angela

We'll check that out, also. This summer, my husband is going to do a complete check on the truck. We're having a sound coming from under the brake pedal area when we apply the brakes all the time, you can feel/hear it. It sounds like a clunk. Our front end will be the death of us, I think. This thing has been totally rebuilt by my husband. Why just the 86 and never the 90 we had? My truck also makes it obvious it's a truck. It rides JUST like one. We are looking for one more B2. Problem with that is that in Indiana, they all seem to be more than just a little bit rusty. When you shut the door on one we looked at, the whole drivers side shook. The body mounts were gone! Sooo sad that people don't take care of these. Mine is my baby. The other one we looked at was an '89. It was auto/manual 4wd. Well, they wanted $2995 out of it, and it had been wrecked on pass. side. Someone did a 1/2 job. They filled it with bondo. Other thing was 1st gear had a huge problem, also. Just a note to everyone...take care of your Bronco II's. They take care of you when you need reliability. If you don't want your B2 anymore, email me! LOL Thanks for reading. Have a good weekend. Angel
