Dealer agreed to cover under warranty even though veh has 55,000 miles. They replaced the clutches and changed fluid for a cost of $500. I pay $125 of it, Ford pays balance. However, mech says there is still a noise/whin or such coming from rear. He is telling me it is related to the brakes as it seemed to stop once the calipers were removed and he rotated the wheel while on the jack. The brakes are original, so i know they will need replacement soon, but i am skeptical of his conclusion. Any ideas?
thank you.

Can you hear the noise when you're driving down the road? If so how would you describe it? Whine? Howl? Does it change with speed or when you accelerate or decelerate?
Normally a brake problem wont cause a whine noise. Usually it will grind or scrape or squeel. You might want to jack the back of the truck up, put jack stands under the axle and run the truck in gear while listening for the noise. Have someone else sit inside and work the brakes and gears for you. Be very careful around the spinning tires and driveshaft. Yes I know most people dont need to be told this but it's better to be safe than sorry
