I live in "ButtCrack" Pa, and there is nowhere else I would rather be stuck! lol Anyplace your stuck sucks, and I can take an analogy, explaining a bad situation! I hope you and your truck live happily ever after! I will say (not accusing or blaming you) That I turn my hubs in manually, So I truly can have shift on the fly! I think that auto hubs just are'nt dependable enough "When it Counts"! Good Luck!

P.S. WISH I HAD A LEVER!

As I said before, I'm just glad that someone was there to help you out and that's what makes places like this a great place to live. Even those of us who have been here now working on our 7th generation know the reality of this place and as long as someone else can see the beauty of it, then we won't take offense whatever you may call this place. You're always welcome here if you enjoy it for what it's worth, I know that the rest of us here do. Thanks for your kind words.

So I am at work tonight, and we have a meeting. In this meeting we discuss our defects that got to the customer (in this instance Magna Powertrain). It happens to be a gear for the transfercase of a 2011 F-350, it is shattered! In my head I am thinking was it you? But anywho, Magna has changed our processes to make these gears even stronger! These transfercases are really stout right outta the gate, (you will always have a failure on some products, were talking millions of these parts with ppl handling them= human error, it happens). Well Magna is saying they want them stronger as these new Diesel's make so much tourque they are gonna overkill to protect there name! Just wanted to let you all know, that these companies dont sit on there haunches and say "Good Enough"! Better, Stronger, Lighter, Faster! I think that says alot about the company, and makes me wonder if they are building for even more HP/TQ?

Any idea as to when the new runs are going to come off the final assembly line? What is the typical time between manufacturing and the vehicles rolling with what you made?

As far as I know, we are shipping now, I would venture to say they are tricklin in now. I am not positive on build dates, or even how much inventory is still at Magna. I would say that build dates of late 2011 early 2012 will have them. I actually am in a different department, and have little knowledge of these gears, I have ran them a few times, but that department is not my ballgame, so I cant tell you the latest news!

As far as final assemblies, and products rolling off the line, Everything is "lean" manufacturing. All I can tell you is we make what they want at that time, it cuts down on inventory, and if there is an issue, we only made X amount to sort/scrap out. I would Imagine Magna runs the same (or similar) in lean manufacturing, and fills there orders when called upon. I dont work for Magna, or Ford, So I really cant be positive when you would see them!

Ah thanks for the info. I would be really curious if they will hit the assembly lines for the end of the 2011's. I don't think I will hold off for a 2012 .

Remember that the failure rate of these T-cases is really low, this has not turned out to be a common problem.

I'm pretty confident that what you and I did on New Years would have broken the T-case if it were remotely possible. And it's still intact, so no worries .

I wouldn't hesitate to buy any 2011 out there.

These transfercases are really strong as they are! I know it sucks when your truck breaks a "Really Strong" part, but you need to realize this gear has probably 10 ppl touching it, that is 10 ppl that can make a mistake and cause a failure, it happens. There are 3-4 sort stations for these gears so they should never get a bad gear, on paper, but ppl make mistakes! I wouldnt be concerned with the current T case or the future T case.

Like crazy said - some of these '11s have had a workout and have not failed. I know from FTE of 2 that have blown. I got the 6.2 with less torque than the 6.7 but I have "tested" my transfer case in the real world, towing heavy & the transfer has held together.
I will say that if I had 800# torque with the trailer I was hauling last summer in 4x4 low - I MIGHT have blown the transfer or twisted a driveshaft!
But so far - zo good!

Could this be one of the reasons that the Kentucky plant is shutting down 10 Apr for a week?? They are saying it is due to lack of parts.

...I suspect the parts shortage is related to Japan's issues

rickatic,

I agree that the paint issue is one of the reason, and I have a red F350 dulley being built this week... I sure hope I get it soon. ETA to the sate is 11 Apr.

If you check through the KTP Forum you will see paint pigments, certain electronic components ect. Parts are in transit and also in inventory so the supply problem will be down the road, not instant.

Here is what I found.

April Saturday production canceled 9th and 30th
Overtime reduction the first 3 weeks
Weeks of 4th, 11th and 18th
Overtime returns week of the 25th

This is all because of the Japan issues. General Motors already has plants down, Honda and Toyota also have american plants sitting. Our orders at work have been cut back due to japan's issues as well.
