Thrust Bearing question

Okay would someone please explain to me what a thrust bearing is...and can i replace it since i have the oil pan off?....Its on a 77 pickup with a 302 eng. i really dont know anything about it and major input is always appreciated.....Thanks!!

It is a part of #3 main bearing, and can be changed just like any other of the main bearings. It controls fore and aft movement in the crankshaft. If you pry the crank against one face, there should be around .010 inch clearance. Don

So why do you want to replace just the thrust bearing?

OOO I see now that you would replace all the bearings and etc and that would require a full engine rebuild....ugh.....well im learning one at a time....lol....thanks!!
