just got a 1994 ford power stroke its my project truck i dont know much about the 7.3 im a gm tech just wondering if some one can give me the break down on how theses trucks operate and tips on maken them performe and products that you think would be the best to use
In 94 you could get 3 different diesel engines. What is the 8th letter in the vin no.?
M =7.3 natural asperated, K= 7.3 turbo, and F= powerstroke. The first 2 are machanical engines, no electronics envolved and the computer controled powerstroke. A world of difference between the first 2 and the last 1.
As with any diesel, more air in and more air out. The best bang for your buck is to start with getting rid of the factory downpipe from the turbo and putting on one of these http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/p...roke.aspx.This place is the cheapest I have found, and there shipping is fast. Next is the 6637 air filter mod. Do a search on here and you will find tons of info on how to do it. Depending on how crazy you want to go, Jim from Rosewood diesel can build you new injectors. A chip from 3 or 4 places recomended by the guys on here. Again a search will bring them up, as I don't recall all of them. Just a few places to start.
I agree with farmert. Pull that downpipe and put a 4inch on her. takes some modifacation to the firewall ( I beat mine back with a hammer) and ran 4 inch strait back. Then put a intake on it. Im runnin the TS Performance chip and i have had a couple. This one by far is the best yet. There is a shop that sells on ebay called advance diesel that you can get the intake and chip for less then 400 bucks and free shipping. Had mine in three days and well worth the money.
Make sure you get a 3 inch downpipe on top though, anything bigger and you will cuss for years. You can get a 3-4 inch like I got. Tymar sells a very nice downpipe. As far as chips, you should get exh. gauge first then go with PHP, DP, TW, or Matt at Gearhead for custom tunes.
ive got a down pipe on its way to me and chip im thinken on the ts chip i got gagues i just gotta get a pillar pod i will be eventualy upgradeing the fuel system and injecters is there anything in particular to watch for with theses engines and how strong is the front diff on these trucks

What do you mean cuss for years? It doesn't take that long to put one it! LOL I layed in a foot of snow in my blizard carharts and it only took me a half day with the porta power to get it in. Thru the 'years' I'm only adjusted it twice. Mines 3 1/2", I can't imagine a 4" though.
The oil leak is from up top somewhere. Look under the turbo or pedestal, orings go bad there, there are also oil rail plugs in the rear of each head that could leak, also could be coming from up in the valley further, hpop or lines. Need to take cover off of motor if its still on there and start looking
i dont think its coming from the top cause the top of the bell housing is not wet at all and when i had it ont he hoist i coudlnt see any signs of the leak coming from that high up it seems as if its behinde the fly wheel above the rear main which makes me wonder if there is a rear cam plate cover that could leak.
I'm not sure on the cam plate, never had one of these out of the truck. Hopefully someone else can help you out there. Have you checked for sure up top? Felt behind the heads for the oil rail plugs?
I was sure mine was the rear seal. Turned out to be turbo pedestal o-rings. Think the bolts were a little loose, but I had it pretty much apart before i realized it. Hard to see back there.
