I'm already there.... I loved patrol and I loved being a Sergeant but this is much better for me and my family. Plus it's a welcome change and something I'd had in my sights for quite a while.

In another time, they swung from the end of a rope, or stood against a wall with a blindfold and a last cigarette.
Howdy guys. Just still trying to make sense of that jerk that shot and killed a brother in blue the other day up here at Virginia Tech. I'll never understand it I guess.
Anyhoo, I'm not working the street anymore. I got promoted to Detective the other day so now I'm working Mon-Fri dayshift 8AM to 4PM. No more swingshifts, working traffic in the freezing cold, screwed up sleep patterns, etc. Life is good.
So what dept. are you holding down, John?..........robbery, prop. crimes?
Right now we're all General Detectives Dave. They're in the process of restructuring the division and we're all going to have specializations....they just haven't told us what we'll be specializing in yet. They're waiting until after January 1 to tell us.
But now you'll have to deal with the lowest of the low....................You're a better man than me.............
Yup.....although I've been doing that for years too Don. We're in a small town with a population of about 8800 but with 20 motels in town, our population grows by about 3000 on an average night. With two interstates intersecting in the middle of town, we get it all.

I don't think anyone will. Some just snap and do crazy things. Fortunately it's incredibly rare, about like getting hit by lightning. The hard part is not dwelling on it. The common sense part of your brain is telling you that it's rare, but I'm sure it's hard not to feel it's personal when there are people killing cops simply because of the uniform they wear.
On the other side of the freeway in Springfield, Law enforcement just got a brand new jail, knocks heads, and fills that jail!
In Salem the huge contrast is the county line. It is the same police department, but they only can do catch and release for anything other than violent crimes in Marion County. In Polk County we've got 50 some empty beds. We don't cite and release for anyone with a prior record.
I've heard more than one story of someone committing several crimes in one day until they make the mistake of crossing the bridge.
The Lane Co. jail should be reserved for the UofO Ducks football players............Of course Phil Knight would never stand for the law being enforced on his players.
