As far as needing to be torqued down frequently my advice is to
1. make sure the header flange is completely flat before you put them on
2. use GOOD gaskets
3. use locking fasteners, they won't back out on you. You may need to re-torque them once when everything gets warmed up/cooled down a few times, but after that you should be good!

Headers are worth it, after a few weeks of driving cinch em' down again, repeat for the next couple months, maybe once a year afterward.
Like Evan said, use good gaskets.
Buy the brand with the thickest mounting flanges.

I quit riding in '92 after a conversation with Florida Highway Patrol about the wisdom of traveling 125 mph in a posted 55 zone.... which was followed by a conversation with the unit commander and then a somewhat louder one with our section chief and then my LPO...... Then my wife got involved and I realized I wasn't actually smart enough to own a motorcycle at that point in my life...

You are right about riding, Jeff. Not being smart in riding, will get you hurt big time, or worst. My wife rides with me a lot, notting like a good woman on the back that likes to ride.

Oh, on a fun note...I bought a new lawn mower last night. I have 900-1000 sq ft of lawn to mow with my front and back yard combined. Pretty simple stuff. I have ran my old mower for 7 years without an oil change, spark plug or sharpening the blade. I have to say that I have had the best luck with Craftsman mowers.
This baby packs 5.5 ft lbs of torque! Unleash the beast...

So far the only one to self destruct had a honda motor, (so much for honda)
Still waiting for somebody to abandon a nice John Deere riding mower!

hi guys,
put some racing gas in it and it'll thank you later. i haven't had any problems with my murray with the 5.0 briggs. and it has straight slick 50 in it. 1 quart. and its been doing good. and it still starts on the first pull.
erin has it still. i have changed the plug a few times and the air filter. but its been a real good machine, and sharpened the blade. i believe its an 04'. it'll suck up just about everything including cigarette buts.

Morining, well all the talk about the sun coming out the last few days on here has done something, I got about 2" of new snow on the deck. And it is still lighty coming down. And we thought spring had sprong, sucks....

This has to be one of the strangest winter/spring cycles I've seen here in almost 40 years. The farmers around here are worried that they won't be able to get crop insurance because the spring wheat has to be planted before May 1st, and the fields are to wet to plant................

I know, right? The little dusting yesterday morning was kind of cute but the overnight accumulation is completely unreasonable. I moved here for the 300+ days of sunshine per year......they better start soon or we'll be falling short of another average.....
