I have a 2000 250 V10 that im considering deleting the CAT. I have no emmsions where I live and am wondering if anyone has done this and what I can expect from it?
Wouldn't deleting the CAT trigger the CEL and make your engine run like crap?
FALSE
on the 2000 model there are 2 O2's, one at each header collector. there are none right before, or after the cat it's self. with only upstream O2's the reading are coming from the exhaust gasses right as they leave the exhaust. so there is no after cat reading to tell the computer that the exhaust is unrestricted.
might notice a slight decrease in gas mileage due to the lack of a small mount of back pressure, but then again it's been proven on here that the large factory cat has little effect on back pressure.
I wouldn't because in the winter months it will warp your valves, What I'm doin is in the winter put a flowmaster 40 on, and in the summer just the cat.

once again FALSE
this is a common misconception about newer vehicles. in fact it was done on the new eco boost where they froze the engine then ran it and froze it again to imitate extreme temp conditions in short times. there were no valve traine issues.
i've ran open headers in a race truck in NC winters when mud drag racing, and never had a warped valve, as well as many other racers have too.
lets keep the old mechanic urban legend tales coming, this could get interesting........
just remember to take it down to the local scrapyard when you cut it off. a big truck cat is probably worth $75-150 depending on size and precious metal prices.

Interesting. Is this also true for all model years, or just the 2000?
Also, in case anyone is wondering why I'm considering this. I will be doing the Y pipe up grade and it will be more costly to re-install the cat than to just run a tube directly to the muffler. I dont see spending the $ to install it when it doesnt help the truck.
I would hang on to it and not sell it. Who knows if your state may implement emission testing someday.
Here in CA, diesel trucks did not require smog testing. Just this year, diesel trucks are now required to be smogged for model year 98 and up. Those folks that deleted the emission control devices will need to put them back in order to register it. Just an FYI.
yep, they have platinum or something along those lines in them. wish i would have known that when i was 16, could've had a lot of cash from all the ones i threw out.

I love this site. Learn something new each day.
You will have to check your specific year model to be 100% sure. I "think" they started the dual O2's in 2002. Just look at the Cat and see if there is a sensor before and after the cat. That is the best way to tell.
Hello, When I bought my 01 F-250 V10 used from the dealer it didn't have a cat. Just a magnaflow muffler. I noticed in the summer when I would have the windows down and stopped at a red light that my exhaust smelled and would burn my nose, it stunk so bad. My truck also only has the two O2 sensors in the down pipes. Finally this summer I had a magnaflow high flow cat welded in and now the exhaust doesn't burn my nose. So that would be something else for you to think about. Also my state doesn't have emmisions, but I've been told by a couple mechanic freinds that my state will be doing them sometime this next year. So I would keep yours for the future, just in case.
