98 Navigator Motor Options
I have a 98 Navigator that we really like. The 5.4 blew a plug. Tried to fix it without pulling the head or motor but was not successful. Motor has a 145,000 miles, so thinking if I have to pull it anyway may as well upgrade to a newer 5.4L. Will all year 5.4L bolt up to my transmission? If I go to a newer more powerful 5.4 with the PI heads, what else will I need to upgrade other than intake? Are there any easy and/or reasonable upgrades I can make to the 98 5.4? Pretty lame for a 5.4 L at 235 HP. Any thoughts or ideas. What would you do? Would like to have 300 HP when all is said and done.

I am not sure on the 5.4 but on the 4.6 in the Mustangs, putting pi heads on a non-pi motor produces a nice boost in horsepower. The pi heads have a smaller combustion chamber so it bumps the compression. This gives you more horsepower than the pi motor. Other ideas are different cams, open up the exhaust and a tune.
