noise after cam sensor replace

my 99 F250 7.3 was shutting off on me when ever it was wet outside. i changed the cam sensor and i was told to lubricate the o ring very well with vaseline, so i did. and now when i turn the truck on i hear a grinding/knocking noise. but when i put it in gear the sound goes away. but if i put it back in park the noise comes back. whats wrong?

You should try posting on the 7.3 forum, sounds like an engine rather than a truck problem. 1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Welcome to FTE.

Where did you get your CPS from? There have been issues with ones from the parts stores so you're better off getting one from Ford for around $25 or free through the recall. The CPS won't cause any grinding or knocking noises unless it's thrown your truck out of time, so you'll have to see if you can narrow down where that is coming from or give us more info.

And some vasoline on the o-ring is fine, but what they meant was to smear it on the rubber seal at the electrical connector to help keep moisture out of the connection.

You're better off getting one from Ford. We've read too many weird issues and failures from the aftermarket ones.
