Wrench light when towing
I have a 2005 6.0 diesel that when towing a fifth wheel sometimes in a head wind a wrench will pop up on the instrument panel and the truck will have a reduced power. When I stop and turn off the truck and restart everything resets. Any ideas as to what it is or how to correct ? use to not do this.Is something getting out of adjustment? Thanks

Mileage? Maintenance?
Pull codes --- you can do it with a $20 code reader.
If you have the fairly recently updated flash....
ECT/EOT temp out of range is my guess.
Early stage Oil / EGR cooler failure.
Let me guess.. you don't run a coolant filter?
When was last time coolant flushed?
A cheap fix if this is the case --- see if a VC-9 flush will solve the problem.

I have 130,000 on the engine. Coolant and transmission was flushed and filters changed this summer.I replaced the brake controller to a 06 /07 model this summer and the ford garage couldn't find the codes when I explained what was going on.He said that they clear themselves sometimes if they are not major I had them check while it was in.What type of reader would I need to check this. the latest flash was Sept. Be nice to check when it happens. Thanks for all the help lots of knowledge here

Check the 6.0 tech folder. There is a procedure for cleaning the turbo that's fairly easy. I don't advocate replacing a turbo unless it has a catastrophic mechanical failure---leaking turbo seal or impeller contact with the housing.

Well the flash was done sept or oct this year, So first chance I get I will have the turbo cleaned. Wish I could find someone in South Texas this way I could check it out on my way home in the spring

My money is on the ECT/EOT monitoring that was just installed.
If it was a turbo over / underboost, it would probably have set a code.
If you want to be chintz, I would hook up a code reader that can read EOT/ECT when the wrench light comes on (since it doesn't stay).
If that differential is over 15degrees F (cheeze and tex.. please confirm)... when the light comes on, it is Oil / EGR cooler failure warning.
Likewise, read the turbo boost at that point....
I am willing to bet cheeze and tex that it is not turbo.
Wagering a round of Duron-x for cheeze and tex.

Off hand, I don't know --- and mine just left for work on another vehicle!
But get the cheapest (they are like $20) and see if it does "freeze frame" data.
If it does, see if it reads it.
If not, I know Scangauge II does.
I really am anxious to see which of our theories prove to be right.
Not often I have a chance to offer a competing explanation to tex and cheezit.
To me, the real clue.... you didn't have the problem before the flash which was very recent.. and nothing else changed.... no sign of turbo problems before.... and no code.
Anyone want to start betting?

It was doing this before the last flash in Sept /Oct The reason it was in was to replace the brake controller and the FICM thats when he went ahead and flashed Is the Scan Gage 2 what you suggest ?
