There is a problem with the spark plugs but not the same as the 2 valve. The 2 valve has a problem spitting the spark plugs whereas the 3 valve engine have problems with the lower portion of the spark plug getting stuck in the cylinder head and coming apart. I would look up v-10 3 valve spark plugs on youtube and you will find many videos showing this problem and how easy it is to correct with the right tools. By the way not all v-10's have this problem. I replaced my plugs at 65K and had no problems....
When I changed the plugs in my 06 5.4 I soaked them in penetrating lube for 2 days and still broke 3 off.
If you are buying the truck from a dealership I would make new plugs part of the deal. I would actually go buy the one piece champion plugs and have those put in rather then the motorcraft plugs.
If you are buying it private party I would order the broken plug removal kit and have it on hand if necessary. If you don't use it send it back, if you do use it you can either keep it or sell it to someone here used and get most of your money back.
Hey guys, am I just lucky or what. I have a 99 E350, V10 which I bought new and have changed the plugs at 100M, 200M and 300M, with no problem betting them our or blown out.
Well, I have an *E350* a club wagon 15-pass. It's a 1998 with about 125K. I bought it used 5 years ago from a dealer and I must add, they must have done a complete tune cause my baby drove for five years before I decided to get it tuned. And it was done only because I was planning a trip to Utah from CA. Other than the tune and oil change every 3K it has had no other work. Oh, the original Motorcraft battery finally went to battery heaven. btw, prior to the tune the engine was running smooth as silk, no vibration, no noise, no anything. I did it 'cause I thought it was due because of the mileage.
I love my V-10! The most practical, efficient, comfortable, and powerful engine I've ever owned.
