I am new to this site and hope this is where i ask this kind of question?
i have a 1986 f250 4*4 and would like to know if i have to change the complete wiring harness behind my dash. or is the conector on the firewall the same as mine. v8 gas out power stroke in.
thanks.
first of all welcome to FTE
personally I think you have to change the whole harness under your dash. You should use a electrical diagram to compare both harneses. You'll find such diagrams in some tech books like Haynes or Chilton.
The connector on the firewall should be the same.
I think the easiest way is to get a whole harness from you local wrecking yard.
If you need more information please fell free and ask again....

From what I have read on here, even the dash needs changed out. Plus, you'll need the CPU, tranny and rear end from a PSD. It sounds like a major project.

cpu and rear end kind of scare me off, what about an older 7.3 and my gas tranny with the diesel torque converter
Hi again,
what about your gas engine? Isn't it better you buy another truck which has a stock diesel engine? just curious
Do you know which tranny you have? I suppose it's an C6, is it?
i have a 302 fuel injection whith a 4 speed od tranny.i have just replaced every body paney and made the truck like new. my motor has been a headacke.manifolds, rear seal and as of today computer we think.the price of a diesel truck around here is crazy.
i can get a great deal on a diesel motor right now.
installing a power stroke in a older F250 would be more trouble then its worth, you will need the dash, all the harness's, the trans, computer, radiator, gas tank parts, fuel lines, charging system, dual batterys, glow plug controller, the list goes on and on.
i think if your bent on doing a swap like this you'd be better off finding a older IDI diesel that is not computer controlled
on a good note if the truck has a full floater axle in it that will work with the diesel and will not need to be changed.
i miss my 1990 F250 HD 7.3 IDI everyday
stupid me traded it (gave it away) on my girlfriends new explorer.
