This morning I went out to start the truck to go to work and it acted like the bats were dead I knew this wasn't the case because I have an on board battery charger and it was pluged in. so I poped the hood in attempt to start from under the hood by shorting the relay. the small guage wire that acts as a ground for the relay had melted into two peices. So i grabed a larger guage wire with to gator clips (temporary of course just to get me to work) and cliped it on to the neg terminal then touched it to the starter relay and then I heard the glowplug realy start clicking. as soon as i started to spin the engine the (probably 10 or 12 guage) wire melted. I stoped there and took my wifes eqinox. Whats going on? How come I all of a sudden have this issue. the battery terminals are clean in case that was someones first thought.
I would check the ground cables where they bolt to the engine. It sounds as if they are bad and when you go to start it is trying to compleat the circut threw the small wire. I had a 86 gasser that the ground from the battery broke at the block connection, and it melted the body grounds when trying to start it.
And that fender i rihno lined the whole thing except the painted surface this summer. I do belive that it is a ground issue because i put a set of jumper cables on the neg side of the bat and the other end on the top alternater mount and it spun right over. how many grounds are there? I found two but I can't see where they attach to the block?
