Why does the V10 get a bad reputation?
#31
From what I read from the "6.2L Engineer" thread, I don't see how it will top the V10 in any category. Eight percent better fuel burn? That is nothing. Less torque and at higher RPM's?
I hope the 6.2 works out. But it will take another version to best the 3v V10.
My next truck will probably be a 1/2 ton anyway. I am digging the 3.5L ecoboost. If I can get mid 20's on the highway empty...sign me up to the 420 lb/ft at 2500 rpm.

I'm not a big fan of them stepping backwards on torque either, but there is more to towing than just that. I saw Fords eco boost test on there web site and it looks like a real winner.
Hopefully they will build an eco boost 6.2 or make the 6.2 into a V10.

I just joined this forum, and I've been searching some threads, and came upon this one. I've had my '98 Club Wagon V-10 since '99, and it now has 113k miles on it. The only issues I've had with it, is what I'm doing with it now, and the coil packs are starting to go out. I replaced #6 last winter, and now am replacing #7. Hopefully, I will just have to replace one a year, that would be nice! But, other than that, I've had no problems with the engine. When I bought the van, it had 20k miles on it.
The brakes, however, have been haunting me forever! With really bad pulling to the left, I've changed just about everything over the years. Calipers, brake lines, etc. I've even replaced the ABS distribution box, but it still wants to pull. I did another brake job on it last year, and greased the crap out of the sliders, and it was fine for a while. But, now it's starting again. Not as bad, but once in a while, it will pull to the left. Aside from the brakes, all I've had to do to it recently is replace the ABS sensor on the rear pumpkin. That took care of the ABS/Brake light being on!
After reading through this thread, I'm glad I never did get the 7.3 diesel. I was wanting it for the fuel mileage, but from what I've been reading, apparently it's expensive to fix, and constantly breaks down.

The tuner from Mike will bump up the speed limiter. If memory serves me correct mine is set somewhere in the 120s.

I didn't realize the V10 had a bad reputation. Everyone I've talked to has said it is probably the best gasoline engine ever produced and certainly the best that Ford has ever made. Anyone who complains of MPG should reconsider what vehicle the engine is installed in! 7500-8000 pounds of flat faced iron moving in the wind will not get good mileage....LOL

Never use cruise control they prove me it WORST thing you can do with mpg.
Can you explain how I get 16 mpg out 01 F250 2wd with 200K miles on 5.4L. It cruise 90 mph for 600 miles. It have 3.73
Our 01 F250 crewcab 4wd v10 the best I could gotten 14 mpg on highway but I prefer 5.4L because quick accelerator. Our V10 is lazy but until you rev pass 3K rpm it woke up but your mpg 14 go drop to 11-12.

The only bad reputation it has in the motorhome market is because of the high revs it can get noisy in the motorhome especially going up hill, otherwise a potent engine, made better with a 5 star tune. I am going to be adding some noise suppression blankets to my engine compartment in my class "A".
