I am attempting to convert a 1994 F350 with a 7.3L Turbo Deisel automatic transmission to a 5 speed. I have a 5 speed tranmission from a 1989 F350 with a 460 CI Gas motor. Has anyone out there done this succesfully yet? I know the 5 speed will not bolt up directly. I have ordered a spacer plate for the 7.3 but I do not know if this is also an adapter to accomodate the different bolt patterns. Any advise is appreciated.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum117/ Here is a link to the page for your engine. Plenty of the guys there have done the ZF5 conversion but most using the trans from another diesel.
The bolt patterns are slightly different for the 460 but I have noticed that some guys say it can be made to fit by elongating some of the bolt holes.
However the guys on the IDI diesel page would probably know more.
Good luck.
