Happy New Year to All. 
Posted this before without to much response 
so thought I'd try again. 
( I like these little guys.) My 56 Merc coe has a U.S. vin # showing it was built at Detroit Truck. It seems to be original but anything is possible. Did a lic. plate trace in 83, it came back as a 56 Merc. flat deck with the same vin as stamped in right frame rail (two places). Glove box plate is gone.
Is it possible that all or some 53-56 Merc. coe's were built at Detroit Truck for export only because of retooling or some such reason??
It would be nice if other COE owners would step forward with their partial vin to see where they were built. Ford or Merc, any year may shed some light on this issue.
