i received the tow style mirrors for christmas and plan on changing them tomorrow from the little mirrors on my 2000 f250. Is it hard and any helpful advice?
No I think they bolt right up. Just pop the black plastic piece off from inside the door and use a deep socket and extension to loosen the bolts(I think three bolts to be exact each side).
A question? Does only one extend and retract? My driver's side extends and retracts but the passenger side seems to be a long arm version that doesn't retract...
I think the 99's had fixed towing mirrors. Maybe one of yours got smashed and was replaced with another year mirror.
Possible. It's a 99 and the driver's side does look newer. Looking into it, there's never been any damage to the sheet metal, so maybe they caught the mirror on something or broke the glass and ended up with the newer retractable version as a replacement.
The door panel has to come off to accesss the plug for the mirrors as well, and as long as the replacement mirrors are for the same year as yours they should just plug it.

Anyone?
I have seen 3 types of tow mirrors without the integrated turn signals.
Fixed (non-extending)...only folds backwards
Extending...only folds backwards
Extending...folds forwards and backwards
My 99.5 truck had the fixed mirrors originally. Didn't take long for me to get them caught up on stuff. I now have the third kind.
My wife's 2000 has the second type.
I think both sides should be the same, so someone must have replaced one of your mirrors during your truck's previous life.
