Fuel Filter

Stupid question, how hard is it to replace the fuel filter on the 03 with a 4.6. Do I have the purge the fuel lines and how do I do this? Thanks

You need a fuel line tool. No need to purge the system.
Just be careful, have plenty of rags and ware some eye protection when you do it.
It's a good idea to let the truck sit for a wile before doing it. So the fuel system is not fully pressurized.

look for the schrader valve on the fuel rail. You can releave the pressure there. Dont forget the rags and ppe,put a drain pan under it. You can get the tool were you buy the filter for a couple $$$

Thumbs up

I've been changing this style/type of filter on F150s for over 10 years now.No need to purge or let it sit.Just wear some safety glasses and have a rag or 2 available.I have it down to 5 minutes or less on my current F150.

I'll just have to get the tool. I just bought the truck like 3 months ago, it has 170K on it. I have no clue of when the fuel filter was changed before. I also need to flush the radiator. I thought about taking it to a shop and have it done. Thanks,Mark

Be a good idea to flush the brake fluid and power steering fluid, too.

I just had the brakes done and they were bleed.

Yes, I need to flush the power steering unit. I have an add for $69.00 bucks to get it done. Is there a easy way to flush the PS?

I bought a turkey baster and sucked out what I could then filled it up with full synthetic trans fluid. Did this till it was clear and it took only a quart to do it. Better power steering and no noise.

I think I might have to try this, lol. You kept doing this process until the fluid was clear? Did you drive it for a couple of miles and sucked the oil out again?

I have seen in-line filters for the power steering.

Just cycle the steering wheel from lock to lock. Put a filter in the return line for max protection. There's a cleaner you can use before changing fluid to.

Can't remember but it is a low pressure hose. The high pressure hose will have metal screw in ends.
