Coil cutting out?

I narrowed down a few things. Fuel system fine and my plug routing is fine. I had my plugs routed badly but not no more since I learned that they're sensitive. But I grew a idea.. I have this old timing light that hooks between the cap and plug. (you got to take the plug wire off completely and it clips to the terminals instead of clipping over the wire) and it doesn't hook to the battery. It uses the voltage from the coil. So this is what I did, I hooked it between the coil and distributor cap. At this point the engine was fairly warm and idling decent but with a few random surges. I was watching the strobing timing light and it seemed like it was missing a few fires especially when I heard the motor surge. In other words it sounds like the coil is cutting out. It has a brand new coil on it because I originally thought that was my issue. it's fully tuned as well. And I also tried holding it in start while it was running (and YES I unhooked the starter relay) and it runs fine while in start position. So could that be the ICM? How would I test if it's the ICM or a bad connection between the ICM and coil? Oh! And another reason I think it's the coil shorting/cutting out is because once it stalls And I restart it, I got to push the pedal down as if it flooded itself. But when the motor warms up it runs great and drives great! but the idle sometimes adjusts slightly. And it's not the fuel system because It has a new regulator and the pressure has been tested and it's fine. If you wanna know all I did to it you'll see it all in my other post.

*** And I forgot to mention that the ICM is the fender mount one. It's gray in color and the number on it reads E7DF-12A297-A1A ***
