I have a 2001 ranger xlt 2wd regular cab 5speed 4 CYL.. does anyone know the biggest size tires i can fit on there with the factory suspension? I would like to put some 33's on there. would a body lift void my 35,000 mile warrenty? Would a 3 inch body lift fit some 33's on there or should i go with 31's? also would like a cheap solution to a better looking exhaust setup than the curved rust pipe hanging out the back corner! Any comments/ suggestions are appreciated.
I am not sure about the the size that would fit without a lift, but I do believe that a lift will void you warrenty. (I would ask your dealer before lifting) Just remember that when you add bigger tires you will loose gas milage. I went from 31 X 10.50 to 33 X 12.50 on my ranger (which has a 6 inch suspension lift. I was getting 19 miles to gallon and after the switch I dropped to 13 miles to the gallon. I would suggest not going over 31's. Also when you do put larger tires on make sure that you get your speed odemeter recalibrated. I only register 8 tenths of mile for every mile that I drive.
I have a 93 ranger that came with a three inch body lift and 33's when I bought it. Trouble is the guy just kept the original springs and shocks and the tires cantered inward due to the stress. After installing heavy duty springs and shocks this corrected the problem but i came to realize the stress was also on the steering and drive components and eventually downsized the tires to 31's. Now I'll admit the 33s looked cooler but the stress on the ujoints, steering and axle components was causing problems. Not to mention that in the snow or slick surfaces the truck acted like it was on four tobogans. Also there is a substantial power loss when riding on 33s. I have considered going to a narrower tire than 10.5s but have trouble finding them under 33 again. Oh and by the way....even with a 3 inch body lift the 33s would rub occasionally when tight turning.
all in all I wouldn't go larger than 31's for what it's worth....
I have a 98 mazda b4000 and I've got 31's on the truck with real trouble. However, My tires do rub at full turn of the steering wheel. I asked about putting 33's on and inorder for them to clear you need a lift. From what I've been told the lift will void your warranty.
