429 to 300

429 to 300
I recently bought a 71 crew cab, it is a 2wd 4 speed with a broken 429. I would like to put a 300, 6 in it. What years and sizes of trucks will be compatible for this swap? I am hoping that it will be a direct bolt in.

Hey Jermey the 300 6 should bolt right up to you trany that is in there but you will have to find a set of motor mount out of a 68-79 truck with a 300 6 in it to mount the motor. Why do you not want the 429, the only reason I ask is I am puting a 302 in my 69 f150 just because the fuel prices up here are so high a BB is out of the question.

Yup, 300 won't bolt into that tranny. The 300 in my Crew works excellent - (I was originally going to out the 300 and in a 429, but I get 18mpg and lots of torque) My buddy has the exact same truck as mine, except with a rebuilt smog 429- I drove it and is comparable in hp/tq to my warmed over 300/6 -

What year trucks should I be looking for? Im wanting to get all the parts in one package. My truck is a 250 will a 100 or 150 work? What parts will I not be able to swap over from the right donor?
