I'm still learning a lot about these trucks here myself, but I do believe yours is not an uncommon occurance. Do some searching of this forum via the search feature.

I submitted the original question: Pinging and burnt out plug. The problem is FIXED. My wife helped out considerable. She did further researh on the WEB and found that Dodge had a similar problem almost to the letter. I re-ran my plug wires on the right side (drivers), keeping them at least 3 to 4 inches apart and if they crossed, cross them at 90 degs. I changed the plug and for the last 500 miles, I have had no pinging and the plug seems to be ok. Time will tell for sure. Your site was a big help in steering us in the right direction.
My first question is does it do this when your are climbing a hill or a bridge? And if so your wires probably won't cure the problem. You need to look for a vacuum leak where the plenum meets the intake. This has happened to me before and the dealership never could find it.A friend told me to look where I told you and sure enough that is what it was.I smeered some RTV sealant on all the seams and that fixed it.I later changed the gasket.Never happened again.Oh yeah it was the number eight cylinder also.
